Jordan Roach

NEYT STUDENT

At the New England Youth Theatre, my first role was Sailor #1 in James and the Giant Peach. Here I learned how to project and enunciate my lines, and the charismatic character provided the perfect outlet for my own energy. NEYT is often referred to as a “home away from home.” Cast members spend weeks rehearsing together in order to polish their productions, and form new friendships and families in the process. Over the years, this environment has allowed me to explore the different facets of theater. Through acting in productions, I have been encouraged to take risks and find my creative voice. As a student mentor, I have taken part in planning cabarets, fundraisers, and other events. Through stage managing I have honed my organizational and leadership skills, and through taking part in technical production work I have learned to appreciate the process that leads toward developing a shared presentation. Now, my role in the theater is mostly through the pit orchestra. Each night, I get to watch my peers express themselves with emotion and conviction, and I’m proud to witness their performances. When I have rests in my music, I mouth the lyrics to the musical numbers. I appreciate the family I have found here, and I hope to continue supporting creativity and expression in every aspect of my life.
