Musical Theatre Reboot

Ages 14 - 18 | June 17 (One day only)
Facilitator: Susan Haefner MacPherson

In this one time workshop, Susan Haefner will offer a taste of what it feels like to be in a Broadway show. Participants will have an opportunity to learn a Broadway-style musical theatre number and select 'scenes into songs' – singing, dancing, and acting…all at the same time!

This is about process, not product, so it will be all about having fun, stretching ourselves (literally and figuratively!), bringing out our inner diva jazz hands, and finding a new appreciation for musical storytelling.

June 3rd & 4th

Theatre has the potential to awaken the world through its art form. In this course, we will learn about Forum Theatre, a special kind of activist theater that originates in Brazil. Co-facilitated by Dr.Kerr Mesner and NEYT Artistic Director, Malia’Kekia Nicolini. Together, we will create a short piece about a social change issue that is important to the participants. Then we will share it as an interactive performance with an audience on the last day (Sunday June 4). As an actor, you’ll get to stretch your creative muscles, as well as your skills in improvisation and spontaneity. As a human, you’ll get to strengthen your voice and deepen your personal integrity with this emerging community. It’s an exciting way to explore activism and to express yourself about issues that are important to you!  Attendance at all sessions is required to participate in the final performance.
