Shakespeare's bewitching tale of faithful friends, feuding families and lovers in disguise has been joyously adapted and set to song. This AS YOU LIKE IT was named one of The New York Times‘ best shows of 2017.
Forced from their homes, Orlando, Duke Senior, his daughter Rosalind and niece Celia escape to the Forest of Arden, a fantastical place of transformation where all are welcomed and embraced. Lost amidst the trees, the refugees find community and acceptance under the stars.
Commissioned by the Public Theatre's Public Works project, and featuring an original folk-pop score by virtuoso Vermonter Shaina Taub, this show is a raucous and inclusive celebration of life and love.
“This AS YOU LIKE IT offers a utopian vision of a society that favors acceptance over division, honesty over obfuscation, grace over meanness.” – The New York Times
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
This program offers a more intensive and rigorous musical theatre experience for our senior company students. A fully produced musical is mounted in three weeks and performed with a live student band. Participants are given the support they need to develop the vocal, dance, and acting skills required for high-level musical storytelling. The added focus on building ensemble results in strong bonds between cast, crew, and faculty. Actors learn to take ownership of their storytelling and build awareness of what they are delivering and communicating to an audience. While there is room for all abilities in this production, some prior experience in musical theatre is recommended.
