Design and Tech Theatre

Ages 12- 19
This tuition-free program is supported by the generosity of our donors.
Session One: June 17th – July 14th
Session Two: July 17th – August 13th

NEYT’s Technical Theatre Program provides opportunities for students ages 12 and up to learn how to design and execute all elements of a theatre production: scenic design, construction, props creation, painting, lighting, and sound. Interested students also participate as running crew for the production projects. Coordinated by our Technical Director, Jason Clark, this program dovetails with our productions so that practical skills are developed through real experience. Much like an apprenticeship, students are able to progress and take on leadership roles as they develop their skills.

Ages 12-19 with some sewing experience.
Directed by NEYT Creative Director and Costumier Sandy Klein.
This tuition-free program is supported by the generosity of our donors.

Our summer programs in costume design are each connected to a
specific production project. For more information contact Sandy Klein at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

CAMP CLOWN TOWN  June 20th – July 1st

MELODRAMA FESTIVAL  July 10th – July 22nd

Here you will learn how the story- and characters within that story inform how we costume a character. Learn how elements of color, shape, texture, history, archetypes, and imagination all factor into this creative and collaborative adventure. Students are expected to take leadership roles in the designing of these melodrama plays.

SWEET CHARITY  June 20th – July 9th
The costume team for our summer musical production works closely with our visiting professional designer and Director Rebecca Waxman to research, design, and create the costumes for this 1960’s era musical. Special emphasis will be on character silhouette and creating place through costume.

MACBETH  July 24th – August 13th
To execute the costumes and character stylings of this celebrated & brooding play, Sandy Klein will work with three students in this intense look at Shakespeare's Macbeth. Students will work closely with visiting director John Hadden to create a beautiful harmony of set, costume and performance.
