Cyrano de Bergerac
An alumni production
This June, the NEYT Alumni Association will present the classic 1897 French tragicomedy Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. A 21st-century translation by renowned Irish poet Derek Mahon, Cyrano will be produced, directed, designed, and acted entirely by alumni of New England Youth Theater's productions and summer programs. The plot centers around the title character, a supremely skilled swordsman and wordsmith, with a penchant for the dramatic, and a conspicuously oversized... sniffer. A significant source of self-doubt, Cyrano's nose prevents him from from pursuing his true love Roxanne - and results in a collaboration with a fellow suitor, the handsome but ineloquent Christian.
With a cast that spans generations of Alumni, Cyrano de Bergerac will star Sam Perry, Shannon Ward, and Addison Rice, supported by Noah Smith, Ian Mahoney, Noel Porter, and an entire ensemble of former NEYT students. Directed by Ben Stockman, Cyrano de Bergerac can be seen at the New England Youth Theater June 16-19 and 24-26
NEYT strives to make its programs and performances accessible. Classrooms and the theater in our facility are universally accessible, and the box office can provide Assistive Listening Devices to patrons upon request. Theatre Adventure shows are always ASL interpreted, and we aim to provide ASL interpreters for at least one major production each year.
