Raised in the little town of Elmore, VT, Marcel Freda is an actor, director, writer, comedian and educator who has been performing for over 20 years, ever since a dedicated teacher of his convinced him to get on stage in the 8th grade. Forever grateful for the encouragement of his teacher, Marcel has tried to provide young people with similar opportunity and support as an educator of the performing arts and artist in residence at many schools.
Prior to his work with NEYT he enjoyed many successful years as the theater director at his high school alma mater, Peoples Academy in Morrisville, VT. He has also worked in a variety of positions with The Governor's Institutes of Vermont over the years. A little while back, Marcel traded his snowshoes for flippers when he moved to St. John in the US Virgin Islands to be NEYT's Theater Resident at Gifft Hill School. Just as he was about to begin his 3rd year in that role, Hurricane Irma hit the island forcing Marcel and his partner, Colleen, to flee their devastated home and return here to New England where Marcel has accepted the position of Education Director at NEYT. He's excited to be a part of this amazing community of artists and bring his passion for theater to the role.
