NEW ENGLAND YOUTH THEATRE
The Special Program Stipend
The New England Youth Theatre is pleased to announce the Special Programs Stipend, to be awarded annually starting in May of 2008. Funded by an anonymous donor, this exciting new program will help qualified students at NEYT to pay for special intensive programs in theatre, film, and television. This will include both acting and technical programs, with an emphasis on helping to prepare students applying to a theatre program at a college, conservatory, or a professional theatre program.
Students must be in high school, have at least 2 years of involvement in classes and productions at NEYT, and be intending to pursue a post-high school program of training in the theatre arts. Programs would typically take place during the summer, but the awards are not limited as to time or place.
The expectation is that a student would enroll in a one week or longer program at a recognized institution. NEYT faculty may suggest a particular program or intensive to a particular student based on his or her performance or achievement at NEYT. The purpose of the award is to encourage talented students to stretch their wings and seek new opportunities which will further their potential performing arts education, and enhance their professional prospects. A professional course in auditioning techniques may, for instance, propel a student into a coveted conservatory or theatre program through one of these intensives. Or a student interested in technical aspects of theatre, film, or television may need financial assistance to prepare a professional-quality portfolio.
Awards will generally range between $500 and $1,000. This may vary depending on the number of applications received, and on the merits of the application. There will be a simple application form, and the applicant will be invited to an interview with a small committee of faculty and others. Applications will be accepted until May 15th, and awards announced by June 15th.
For an application form, please contact New England Youth Theatre at 100 Flat St., Brattleboro,VT 05301, or phone at 802-246-6398. You can also download an application form by clicking on the link below.
